This Month's Theme:
Festive Season

From Nikon Ambassador Leon Neal

"The festive season is a magical time, particularly for children. Consider approaching the challenge from a child's viewpoint."

Leon Neal shares his top tips for shooting Autumn:

  • Christmas is all about getting together with family and friends. Think about catching those moments that sum up the Christmas cheer.
  • Try thinking outside the (gift)box, and look at other elements of the festive period, be it pop-up Christmas tree businesses or charity projects such as soup kitchens.
  • Everyone loves the cosy darkness of a winter evening inside. Can you capture that feeling in a photo?
  • Not everything at Christmas is about sitting still though. Head to your local festive ice-rink and play with long-exposure, off-camera flash or multiple exposure techniques.
  • Christmas lights are great fun to play with, photographically. Try experimenting with the shapes and forms you can create using a shallow depth of field, for dreamy bloom effects.
  • Finally, you could even go high tech and set up your own camera trigger to catch Santa in the act!
  • Here are some festive photos to kick start your inspiration
